All Saints’ Celebrated this Sunday

October 31, 2014 By admin

This is the Sunday we will be paying homage to all the saints. During the children’s sermon our young people will be processing in costume while we sing “I sing a song of the saints of God.”

I sing a song of the saints of God, patient and brave and true, who toiled and fought and lived and died for the Lord they loved and knew. And one was a doctor, and one was a queen, and one was a shepherdess on the green: they were all of the saints of God and I mean, God helping, to be one too.

Collect for All Saints’ Day

Almighty God, you have knit together your elect in one communion and fellowship in the mystical body of your Son Christ our Lord: Give us grace so to follow your blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living, that we may come to those ineffable joys that you have prepared for those who truly love you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

From the Gospel for All Saints’ Day

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
“Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
“Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.  Matthew 5:1-12

Every Member Canvass begins November 9th

October 31, 2014 By admin

Sunday, November 9th is the kick-off Sunday for our 2015 Every Member Canvass. That day, following the 10:00 AM service there will be a pot-luck luncheon in Musselman Hall.

Please bring a favorite dish – of your choosing. We have an oven where we can keep things warm if you bring it to the kitchen before the 10 AM service. If you have a story about this favorite dish, you can, if you like tell that story after we sit down.

The theme of our canvass this year is “Abundance: Stories of Gratitude for God’s Generous Hand.” Speakers at our services on November 9th and 16th will be telling their own stories of gratitude. Fran Johnson will speak on November 9th and Harry Hoyt will speak on the 16th. Stewardship packets will be passed out on November 16th and mailed to the rest of the parish on Monday, November 17th.
