Also, come say thank you to our outgoing vestry members Betsy Kirkpatrick, Mike Huppman, John Rubillo and Bill Graham – and our accounting warden Carol King. They have served the parish faithfully and well.
Epiphany Luncheon & Auction on January 25th
Come join us for our annual Epiphany luncheon and auction at 12 noon! It follows our Annual Meeting at 11 AM in Musselman Hall. The auction is a potpourri of gift certificates (Erin Pub and Rigatonis), games, figurines, dolls (including the Colette Zapf collection doll “Isabell”), jewelry, sports paraphernalia (e.g., Ryan Howard bobble-head) and other cool stuff donated by members of our Christ Church family. Oh, yes, and we are offering a Columbus Day weekend in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley in a rustic cabin (with all the amenities) that sleeps 8.
Our auctioneer and master of ceremonies is the one and only Bob Melso. He promises to make it fun and a great fund-raiser for our youth program. We hope to see you there!
2014 Christmas Services at Christ Church
St. Nicolas appears this Sunday
St. Nicolas will make his annual appearance to Christ Church children this Sunday, December 7th at the 10 AM service during the children’s sermon. St. Nicolas will tell the story of his own gift giving to the children of Myra (part of modern day Turkey). The historical St. Nicolas was born in the 3rd century AD. The modern day St. Nicolas makes his home right here in Delaware County. We are pleased to welcome him back to Christ Church.
Thanksgiving Day Eucharist
Happy Thanksgiving! Come join us at 10:00 AM for our annual Thanksgiving day Eucharist. Special thanks to Ruth and Russ Pottier who decorated our altar with a beautiful cornucopia of harvest fruits and vegetables.
Men’s Breakfast Cancelled
The men’s Breakfast scheduled for Saturday, November 8th has been cancelled.
All Saints’ Celebrated this Sunday
This is the Sunday we will be paying homage to all the saints. During the children’s sermon our young people will be processing in costume while we sing “I sing a song of the saints of God.”
I sing a song of the saints of God, patient and brave and true, who toiled and fought and lived and died for the Lord they loved and knew. And one was a doctor, and one was a queen, and one was a shepherdess on the green: they were all of the saints of God and I mean, God helping, to be one too.
Collect for All Saints’ Day
Almighty God, you have knit together your elect in one communion and fellowship in the mystical body of your Son Christ our Lord: Give us grace so to follow your blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living, that we may come to those ineffable joys that you have prepared for those who truly love you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.
From the Gospel for All Saints’ Day
When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying:
- “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
- “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
- “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
- “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
- “Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.
- “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
- “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
- “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
- “Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. Matthew 5:1-12
