At the request of the vestry this past June a group was formed to begin work on planning a capital fund drive to restore our beautiful stained glass windows. Members of team asked to plan the capital fund drive are Johnson Bowie, Carol King, Mike Iannacci, Janice Kordowski, Amy Lovenguth, Judy Yorke, Floss Rhine and Patty Villa. They met once in early July and are scheduled to meet next in late August to continue the planning process.
It is anticipated the capital funds goal will be approximately $50,000, depending on final estimates.
On Thursday, March 30th at 7:00 PM about 30 youth, young adults, and interested parishioners met to begin our conversation about what we might want from a new minister for our youth and young adult ministry at Christ Church. Rev. John Weicher, an associate from the Swarthmore Presbyterian Church youth program and the Rev. Dr. Joyce Tompkins representing the Trinity Church youth ministry shared with us some exciting ideas for how we might further expand our youth and young adult ministry at Christ Church. They also shared ideas for what qualities we might want to consider in a new associate.
As soon as we have gathered names for this new ministry we will convene a search committee to interview candidates. We hope to have the position filled this summer!
Come celebrate the Day of Resurrection at Christ Church Ridley Park! Services on Easter morning are at 7:30 AM, 9:00 AM, and 11:00 AM. There is an Easter egg hunt at 10:15 (sharp!). Kids are welcome to take a plant from the window sill after the service they attend.
Alleluia. Christ is Risen! Come share in the joy of Easter!
This year our Lenten Series will take us on a journey to Jerusalem, the city which is holy to three faiths—Jews, Christians, and Muslims. We will explore it as it is, as what it was, and as what it means to each of those faiths as we watch “Jerusalem: The Center of the World”. This beautiful documentary will give us a glimpse of the city’s past and present, and help us to understand why it is so very important. The Lenten series begins on March 8, the Wednesday after Ash Wednesday. The first four weeks will feature a meal, followed by the DVD. The fifth week will be our annual Seder, which is a wonderful way to connect Communion to Passover, and to explore the Jewish roots of Christianity. It’s also fun to try new foods, as we have a potluck using traditional Passover recipes.
Wednesdays in Lent Schedule
Eucharist begins at 5:30 PM
Dinner at 6:00 PM
Program at 6:45 PM
Stations of the Cross at 7:45 PM
You are welcome to stay for as much or as little of the program as you like! Below are a list of the dinners that will be served:
March 8 Spaghetti Dinner
March 15 Pot-luck Dinner
March 22 Soup and Salad Dinner
March 29 Middle Eastern catered Dinner
April 5 Seder (no 5:30 PM Eucharist this evening)

We will be honoring all our fathers this coming Sunday, June 19th at all the services. Congratulations to all our dads! We will also be remember beloved fathers departed this life.
The first Father’s Day was celebrated on June 19th, 1910 in Spokane, WA. It was championed by Sonoma Smart Dodd who had lost her mother at age 16. Her father took over parenting the six children and Sonoma wished to honor not only her own father, but all fathers. (The idea came to her during a Mother’s Day celebration.) President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the third Sunday of June as Father’s Day in 1927. He encouraged all states to do the same. It was not until 1956 that Congress recognized the day. Lyndon Johnson issue a proclamation in 1966. In 1972 Richard Nixon created a permanent observance on the third Sunday of June.
It’s our annual parish picnic this Sunday, June 12, following the 10:00 AM service. Come join us for hot dogs and hamburgers on the park across the street from the church. We ask that you bring a side dish to share with fellow parishioners. Kids are welcome to bring frisbees and wiffle balls and bats. See you there!
