Almighty and everlasting God, you hate nothing you have made and forgive the sins of all who are penitent: Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of you, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent, a solemn time in the church year when we are invited to metanoia, a change of heart, mind and direction. We mark the day with the administration of ashes as a sign of our mortality and penitence.
Come join us and attend one of our moving Ash Wednesday liturgies on March 5th at 6:45 AM; 12:00 PM; or 7:00 PM.
This year’s Wednesday evening Lenten Program, titled “I Believe”, began on March 12th at 6:00 PM. The 2014 program will be a series of conversations on the Apostles’ Creed beginning with a video presentation by some of the leading theologians of our time. Do come join us for a thoughtful and stimulating discussion on this important document, which sums up the essential tenets of our faith.
We begin with a Eucharist at 5:30 PM, (note no 6:45 AM Eucharist) and then dinner at 6:00 PM (though with a bit different format than previous years). We will enjoy a spaghetti dinner prepared by the youth of Christ Church, a pot-luck dinner, a traditional soup and salad dinner by some of our best soup-makers, a catered Middle Eastern meal by Azim (Aria’s of Swarthmore), and, of course, our traditional passover seder.
Following the discussion in the Deppich Room, those who wish to join us are invited to “Stations of the Cross”, a traditional Lenten devotion. The evening will conclude at 8 PM.
Note that if you would like to come only for the Eucharist or just supper, due to other evening commitments, you are more than welcome to come join us just for any or all of our program. We would love to see you there!

Please join us on Saturday, February 8th, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm for Christ Church’s second annual Snow Flake Dance in Musselman Hall. We will enjoy a fun evening of great music by our own DJ, Johnny Quayson, snacks, refreshments, fellowship and crafts. Brian Gallagher will be providing complimentary photographs in front of a special snowflake backdrop.
This event is for all ages both children and adults. Feel free to invite family, friends and neighbors. Dress casual or in your Sunday best. Our thanks to Bill Graham’s Auto Service and DU, Johnny Quayson for helping sponsor this event.
Robert White was just leaving the house on Wednesday when a large limb came down across the front of the rectory lawn. Fortunately he was not hurt, but he was quite surprised. The Ridley Park police came and the street was blocked off. As it turns out it was not a power line, but the phone and internet lines that were crunched. Verizon repair crews are expected Friday morning, after Jansen tree service removes the branch. For the time being the office is without phone or internet.
