Ringing for some 132 years, the bronze bell from the Clinton H. Meneely Company was cast in 1881 and hoisted up into the tower (no doubt by block and tackle and strong backs).
The Meneely Bell Foundry was established in 1826 in West Troy, NY. After the death of founder Andrew Meneely’s two sons, a third son, Clinton took over the foundry. The company went through several incarnations. After producing some 65,000 bells the company folded in 1952. (From Wikipedia)
Thanks to Al Humes (8:00 AM) and our acolytes (10:00 AM) our bell is rung faithfully each and every Sunday, making a joyful noise, calling to worship, celebrating our life together, announcing newlyweds, and, from time to time, tolling our losses when we gather to remember loved ones departed this life.
